Resource Women in Construction Roundtable

Mission

ADSC’s Women in Construction (WiC) Roundtable started as a way to give women in the industry a platform to share their experiences, concerns, and challenges while also helping employers understand why women often leave the field. Early efforts included collaborating with a safety equipment company to design a better-fitting safety vest for women, as well as hosting mental health workshops to address workplace well-being for all employees.

Over time, it became clear that many of the challenges initially identified as stressors and problems for women, e.g. balancing childcare and caring for aging parents; establishing a valuable professional support network to navigate career questions; determining how to chart an upward trajectory for a career path; figuring out how to have a life that includes work and is not just composed of work – all of these are top of mind for every worker, not just women. To attract and retain top talent, the deep foundations industry needs to understand these issues from the perspective of all workers.

Objectives

Today, WiC has evolved into a worker advocacy group. While women may lead the charge, the goal is to create a space where employees and employers can share ideas, discuss solutions, create career support networks, and promote enlightened employment practices that benefit everyone.

Looking ahead, WiC will be supporting ADSC’s Strategic Plan goals adopted in 2025 by focusing on Retention (2025) and Recruitment (2026) of quality workers. We invite you to join the conversation at our sessions during the Annual Meeting and Summer Meeting: your voice matters, and together, we can shape the future of our industry.

Meetings

The Women in Construction roundtable occurs four times a year at the Annual Meeting, Spring Meeting, Summer Meeting, and Fall Meeting. For more information or to participate in upcoming meetings, please reach out to Peggy Hagerty Duffy.
