Anchored Earth Retention

AER Minutes & Agenda

ADSC/DFI Joint Anchored Earth Retention Committee

The Anchored Earth Retention Committee is a joint committee consisting of members of both ADSC and the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI).  Prior to 2017, both ADSC and DFI had their own independent Committees dedicated to Anchored Earth Retention.  Since both committees had similar goals, and many of the members of the committee were involved in both organizations, the committees joined to allow the collaboration of ideas to better serve the industry, and ensure the interests of ADSC members are best served.  Each organization has a committee co-chair who is responsible for running regularly scheduled meetings associated with their respective organization.

Current Activities

  1. Producing a guidance document describing the state of practice relating to deflections in anchored retaining wall systems.
  2. Collaborating with the Micropile Committee to develop an updated Hollow Bar State of the Practice Document that addresses hollow bar use in micropiles, soil nails, and prestressed rock and soil anchors.
  3. Supporting current research to determine the portion of creep attributed to steel strain in larger diameter tendons.
  4. Researching the impacts of increased limestone in type 1L cement on the bond strength of tendons and the associated properties of the grout, such as bleed, fluidity, and compressive strength.
  5. Producing magazine articles on subjects of interest to the members.
  6. Searching for continued research opportunities to advance the design and construction of anchored earth retaining systems.

Mission

Through the use of education, training, seminars, research, specifications, and other means, this committee will work with owners, both private and public, contractors, and suppliers to increase the use, understanding, quality, and economy of geo-support systems as defined by the committee.

Committee Information

The AER Committee meetings occur four times a year at the following ADSC  meetings:  Annual Meeting, Spring Meeting, Summer Meeting, and Fall Meeting.  The committee meets two times a year at the DFI Midyear Committee week virtual meetings and the DFI Annual Conference on Deep Foundations.
