SUMMARY:ADSC Concrete Slam
DESCRIPTION:OverviewRegistrationHotel AccommodationsAgendaSpeakers & SessionsSponsorship Opportunities \n\nConcrete Slam is a dynamic\, one-day event intended to address current issues and needs related to concrete used for deep foundations.   \n\n\n\nWhy You Should Attend\n\n\n\nThis session is for contractors\, design engineers\, project managers\, transportation officials\, owners’ engineers\, and other personnel who pour\, specify\, and study concrete used to construct primarily drilled shafts and micropiles (although many of the issues covered will also pertain to other types of below-ground construction). This dynamic event is intended to be interactive\, with discussions and questions throughout the presentations. A virtual option is available\, but participants will only be able to log questions and comments in the chat. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\nCost\n\n\n\nMembers (includes breakfast & lunch)$350Non-Members (includes breakfast & lunch)$375Virtual Attendees$100Government Employees(includes breakfast & lunch)$150Virtual Government Employees$50Students(includes breakfast & lunch)$75Students0\n\n\n\nProfessional Development Hours (PDHs)\n\n\n\nAttendees will receive 6 PDHs. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHotel Accommodations\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Room block is closed. Please contact Gabby Hawkins at ghawkins@ads-iafd.com for any questions. \n\n\n\nThe Westin Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas400 W Las Colinas Blvd.Irving\, TX 75039\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, April 21\n\n\n\n8:30 AMA Contractor’s Guide to a Great SpecRay Fassett\, Condon-JohnsonEric Risberg\, P.E.\, GoettleScott Jacobs\, P.E.\, BC.GE\, Keller9:30 AMPotions and Spells – The Latest Concrete Chemistry and TechnologyDr. Nathan Tregger\, Verifi10:30 AMBreak11:00 AMThe State of the Concrete AddressChristophe Justino\, Soletanche Bachy12:00 PMLunch1:00 PMDispatches from the FrontJustine Lentini Trogani\, P.E.\, ADSC2:00 PMWhat Do You Know About How the Sausage is Made?Michael Whisonant\, Martin Marrietta3:00 PMBreak3:30 PMIs It Mass Concrete\, and\, By the Way\, What Does That Mean?!Dr. Andrew Boeckmann\, P.E.\, Dan Brown and Associates4:30 PMPanel Discussion Do We Really Care About Compressive Strength?Various Presenters\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\nTuesday\, April 21 @ 8:30 AM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA Contractor’s Guide to a Great SpecRay Fassett\, Condon-JohnsonEric Risberg\, P.E.\, GoettleScott Jacobs\, P.E.\, BC.GE\, KellerMost concrete specifications for deep foundations are remnants of outdated documents that were adapted from specifications for above-grade elements like walls and slabs.  There are significant problems with using the same controlling factors to specify flatwork and superstructure elements as deep foundation elements.  Three contractors will highlight the problems they see routinely in specifications that ultimately cause problems in achieving the intended design. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, April 21 @ 9:30 AM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPotions and Spells – The Latest Concrete Chemistry and TechnologyDr. Nathan Tregger\, VerifiMany of the unique aspects of deep foundation construction – long pour times\, workability needs\, curing below grade\, bleed caused by casing\, pouring in hazardous environments – can be addressed through the use of specialty techniques and admixtures.  Nathan Tregger will present on the latest and greatest in admixtures\, mix designs\, and other chemical solutions to specialty concrete needs.  He will combine this with an overview of the most current\, real-time batch tracking technology to increase the number of tools that contractors have available to ensure concrete gets in the ground as designed. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, April 21 @ 11:00 AM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe State of the Concrete AddressChristophe Justino\, Soletanche BachyChristophe Justino lives every day at the cutting edge of deep foundation concrete technology.  He will provide a front-of-the-bus view of what’s coming\, what’s going away\, and methods for dealing with big changes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, April 21 @ 1:00 PM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDispatches from the FrontJustine Lentini Trogani\, P.E.\, ADSCIn this session\, results of regional surveys will be given to characterize problems and issues that are occurring regionally throughout North America. Attendees will have the opportunity to comment on their own experiences and suggest research needs and regional initiatives to address consistent issues.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, April 21 @ 2:00 PM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat Do You Know About How the Sausage is Made?Michael Whisonant\, Martin MarriettaHow well do you understand how a typical concrete batch plant works?  How much variation exists from one plant to another? What should you be asking your batch plant to help you have more effective concrete pours?  A veteran of the concrete production world\, Whisenhunt will break it down and offer proactive suggestions for how deep foundation contractors can proactively improve their chances of success. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, April 21 @ 3:30 PM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIs It Mass Concrete\, and\, By the Way\, What Does That Mean?!Dr. Andrew Boeckmann\, P.E.\, Dan Brown and AssociatesConcrete does funny things when you put a large amount of it in the same place.  But how much is enough to create problems?  And does geometry matter?  Andy will walk through a summary of recent research on mass concrete as it applies to deep foundations.  He will address conditions that can cause problems\, as well as thresholds for requirements for mitigation measures\, such as cooling tubes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, April 21 @ 4:30 PM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPanel Discussion:Do We Really Care About Compressive Strength?Various PresentersThe standard for acceptance of concrete for over 100 years\, the quest for compressive strength often leads to severe modifications in other characteristics that can reduce deep foundation performance.  Our panelists will debate the possibility of abandoning the all-consuming quest for f’c.  (Gasp!) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSponsorship Opportunities \n\n\n\nMore information coming soon. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor any questions\, please reach out to Gabby Hawkins at ghawkins@adsc-iafd.com
