ANNOUNCEMENT:

In an effort to further address urgent safety and health problems facing Americans in the workplace, OSHA is implementing a new Severe Violator Enforcement Program (SVEP) and increasing civil penalty amounts. This new program is intended to focus OSHA enforcement resources on employers who endanger workers by demonstrating indifference to their responsibilities under the law. This additional enforcement tool includes increased OSHA inspections in these worksites, including mandatory OSHA follow-up inspections, and inspections of other worksites of the same employer where similar hazards and deficiencies may be present. Invitation to Speakers – Call for Papers

Papers are solicited on the following micropile topics:

· State of practice

· Innovations

· Technical challenges, e.g., cyclic degradation, seismic design, connection design

· Historic renovation

· Load testing

· Numerical analysis on micropiles or micropile walls

· Education and market growth areas/potential

· IBO bond values and challenging soils

· Equipment evolutions – what is better now than then

· Slope stabilization and shoring with micropiles

· Lessons learned (the good and the bad…no names please)

To participate, please submit an abstract to ISM (contact details below) and confirm your intent to submit a full draft paper for consideration by the Program Chair and Paper Review Committee.

Key dates:

Abstracts due January 31, 2009
Acceptance of Abstracts February 15, 2010
Draft papers due May 15, 2010
Reviewer comments returned to authors no later than July 1, 2010
Final, revised papers due August 31, 2010

Authors will be required to submit electronic versions of written final papers for inclusion in the Workshop Proceedings (to be issued on CD). The Program Chair will select speakers to make oral presentations at the Workshop. Presentations will be made in plenary sessions and followed by in-depth discussion.
